There is little to choose from in our neighborhood for reliable high speed Internet. Because most computer users these days need a reliable high-speed connection to the Internet, we have decided to bite the bullet and purchase a T1 line to make available a reliable high speed Internet service to our neighborhood.

Even though we are not a not-for-profit agency, our main goal is not to make a lot of money on this venture. Our main goal is to make available a reliable high speed Internet connection for those who need it at the most reasonable price.

The speed of a T1 connection is 1.5 megabit (both sending and receiving). This is a guaranteed bandwidth (which means that it is not shared with other connections.) Of course, this bandwidth is shared with anyone subscribing to our Service. To explain this further, if there are two users downloading a file at the same time, that bandwidth will be split in half for each user. If there are 10 users of the system all downloading a file at the same time, then each user will be using 1/10 of the bandwidth.

Because of the way the network works, each user of a network connection shares the overall bandwidth. Therefore, we ask all our users to not download movies or a large quantity of sound files during normal hi-usage times. The best time to download big files is after midnight and before 7 am.
